2023 Update

Hanwell parish council strongly oppose this application and will be submitting a formal objection. We would encourage all local residents to do the same. 2022 Update

A number of significant developments to the north of Banbury could affect the area of attractive open countryside around Hanwell village, Drayton and Great Bourton, and harm the character and setting of Hanwell village.  In the last decade, there have already been several significant housing estates developed to the north of Dukes Meadow Drive which the Parish Council raised strong objections to, concerned that the urban area is encroaching ever closer to Hanwell and other small villages.

Currently the housing land supply in Cherwell is less than the 5 years supply required by Government policy. This means that speculative housing proposals are being put forward by landowners on land not allocated in the current Local Plan to 2031, before the Local Plan Review process can earmark appropriate, sustainable new housing sites. One scheme for 78 houses north of Dukes Meadow Drive has already been approved in outline by Cherwell.

In summary, the following developments are currently of serious concern to Hanwell:

i) Manor Oak Phase One, 78 dwellings – on unallocated land north of Dukes Meadow Drive. Outline permission granted April 2022. (https://planningregister.gov.uk/Planning/Display/21/03426/OUT

ii) Manor Oak Phase Two, 175 dwellings – on unallocated land north of Dukes Meadow Drive. Outline application expected Autumn 2022 (https://www.manoroakhomes.uk/project/ban-065-2/).

iii) Vistry Group, 170 dwellings – on unallocated land east of Warwick Rd immediately south of Hanwell village. Outline application expected Autumn 2022 (https://www.co.uk/).

It is expected that the comprehensive Draft Local Plan for Cherwell will be published for public consultation in October/November 2022. However, in the meantime, it is possible that other speculative proposals may come forward.
